A MOVING IMAGE (dir. Shola Amoo, 2016)
Film Screening + Potluck
Friday, November 25 @ 7pm
55 Walker Street, New York
Colloquium for Unpopular Culture and MTL + present A Moving Image (dir. Shola Amoo, 2016), an award-winning feature film about gentrification in Brixton that incorporates fiction, documentary and performance art.
A Moving Image follows Nina, a young stifled artist, as she returns to her community after a long absence, and is quickly painted as a symbol of gentrification. Struggling with her complicity in visibly quickening gentrification, she works to create a piece of art that can bring her community together. The film emphasizes the voices of real people affected by gentrification in Brixton, blurring the line between reality and fiction.
Film critic and programmer Ashley Clark (ashleyclark.net) will present the film and lead a conversation following the screening.
This is the tenth in a series of film screenings, dinners and discussions happening every Friday evening through December 17th at Decolonize This Place.
